Lando Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has outscored Oscar Piastri at all of the last five race weekends.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the championship lead from Piastri by just one point after taking the win in Mexico City two weeks ago, beat the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before the sprint shootout set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the points battle, lying 36 points behind behind Norris, ended up in P17 as his team opted for a alternative strategy.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to go off, if briefly, when he rotated at corner four early in the session.
Tsunoda slid over the curbs on exit before spinning across the run-off area, and was blessed to avoid just a minor contact of the wall.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the very end of the practice, rotating twice through the high-speed corner before the final corner on to the start-finish straight.
Hamilton finished practice in P19, one place behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were well clear of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber third fastest, 0.619secs off the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was in fourth, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
