'Living a Nightmare': Families of Unaccounted For Young People Desperately Seek News After Alpine Fire
The families of teens unaccounted for after a deadly inferno at a bar in a Switzerland's alpine town are enduring an excruciating period of uncertainty for confirmed information and requesting information about their family members publicly.
The inferno devastated the a popular bar in the alpine resort, located in the Swiss Alps of south-west Switzerland, in the middle of the night of New Year's Day. Circulated footage depict the ceiling being engulfed in flames as bottles with fireworks are raised in celebration.
Authorities have indicated that it could take an extended period to formally name the those who perished of the fire, which resulted in the death of four dozen individuals and hurt another scores more. A spokesperson noted on Friday that 113 of the those hurt have been accounted for, with efforts still underway to name the remaining few.
In the waiting period, families and friends have been posting on the internet to appeal for any news about their missing relatives who were present at the venue that fateful night.
Desperate Searches for the Unaccounted For
The whereabouts of teenager from Switzerland Arthur Brodard, 16, are still unconfirmed, according to an public plea from his mother.
The who lives of a town near the city, informed a publication that she had returned to the city to check whether he was in the hospital, while his other parent did the equivalent search in the capital, but did not locate him.
"I'm living a nightmare, an ordeal. Either I find my son in the morgue, or I find him in intensive care. It's terrible," she stated.
She continued that some of his companions had been located with burns covering a significant portion of their bodies. "It's indescribable; they experienced hell."
The Italian government has said that a number of of its nationals are still unaccounted for.
Included in that group is Emanuele Galeppini, a 16-year-old junior golfer, originally from Italy but now living in the UAE.
The national sporting body has said that he is dead, without directly referencing the tragedy, paying tribute to a "young athlete who embodied passion and authentic values."
His parent, told media that his son was at the bar and was last in contact around midnight. An representative has indicated that a formal confirmation of his death is still pending.
Other Missing Individuals
Giovanni Tamburi, sixteen, is also among the missing. His parent said that he had been on holiday but had ventured out with a group and found himself at the venue.
"A companion told me they ran away after the fire erupted and that he had his mobile with him, but then at a certain point he lost sight of him," she explained, adding he had been wearing a distinctive gold chain.
One of his teachers commented, "I remember his kindness and smile, coupled with great maturity. He would frequently offer to help out."
Alice Kallergis, who holds both Swiss and Greek citizenship but lives full-time in the country, was also present on New Year's Eve, according to media.
Her sibling has posted an appeal online, saying the family has had "no news" regarding the teenager or the group she was with, who are also reported missing.
Consular authorities from her other nation say they are continuing to monitor the situation.
